About me

Femke Mooren is a 22 year old and ambitious saxophonist based in Rotterdam, known for her clear and warm sound. As the leader of the Femke Mooren Quartet, she brings her own compositions to life, blending rich melodies with improvisation. The quartet won the 2023 Princess Christina Jazz Concours. Notably, she also got awarded the ‘Women in Jazz Prize’ that year. Characterized by her clear, engaging compositions that allow each band member to shine, the judging panel praised the group’s dynamic expression and balanced musicianship.

Currently completing her studies of Jazz Saxophone bachelor at Codarts Rotterdam Femke continues to refine her style, drawing inspiration from diverse musical traditions with her jazz background such as Brian Blade Fellowship, Immanuel Wilkins and Cannonball Adderley.

Passionate about creating and performing, she is quickly making a name for herself in the jazz scene with various projects such as the National Youth Jazz Orchestra with Maite Hontele and will be performing with the New Jazz Orchestra soon. With her debut album coming soon the listener will be taken on a journey through her life over the past years.

She recently got a wonderful review from Cyriel Pluimakers on Jazzenzo; ‘Mooren writes her own compositions and has a clear, distinct tone on her alto saxophone. Her phrasing is masterful and entirely her own. The playing is exceptionally decisive and assertive.’
